The 612 POAP Challenge is a citywide scavenger hunt that invites you to explore Minneapolis while collecting digital art along the way. Across the city, 31 iconic locations are each tied to a unique POAP (Proof of Attendance Protocol, pronounced “poh-ap”)—a free digital token you can claim as a keepsake of having been there. Think “geocaching,” but reimagined with hometown pride, technology, and beautifully illustrated collectibles created in the spirit of the 612 Series by Erik Halaas and StayNftyMpls.

Playing is simple: download the POAP Home app, pick a location from the map, and go explore. When you arrive, open the app and claim the POAP on-site—each drop can only be collected while you are physically there (within about 100 meters). Each POAP becomes a permanent digital souvenir of your adventure, and you can make the experience even more personal by adding a photo “Moment” after you claim a token to build a visual journal of your journey.

The challenge is designed to reward both casual explorers and completionists. Locations are grouped into five themed categories, and completing a full category unlocks a special “Category Collector” POAP to mark the achievement. Collect all 31 official location POAPs and you’ll earn the 612 Completionist POAP—plus there are two hidden “easter egg” locations for those who love the hunt. The inaugural run went through Labor Day (Monday, September 1, 2025), and participants could also enter a raffle after collecting some locations, with five winners receiving $20 Dairy Queen gift certificates.
